Program Overview- Summer Rising is a partnership between New York City Public Schools and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). Summer Rising is free and available to all NYC students in grades K-8, pending seat availability.

Parents, please see your child’s Summer Rising offer parent letter for your child’s summer rising program name, site school, address and contact person.

  • Important dates of Summer Rising:
    • May 8, 2025: Deadline to accept bids.
    • Grades 6–8 Summer Rising: July 2–August 8, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • July 2, 2025: Summer Rising begins for K-8 students.
    • July 4, 2025: The Summer Rising will be closed in observance of Independence Day.
    • August 8, 2025: Summer Uprising for middle school students ends.
    •  August 12, 2025, Summer Uprising for middle school students with 12-month IEPs (Districts 1–32 Extended School Year) Specialized Instruction, Related Services, and Social-Emotional Learning.
• Transportation during Summer Rising:
  • Families can check their Summer Rising transportation information, which will be available at the end of June, or contact their school to verify ridership information.
  • This summer, eligible students will receive a daily yellow bus ride from July 2 through August 8, arriving at their program at approximately 8 a.m. and departing no later than 3 p.m., as the last bus departs at 3 p.m. However, students can stay until 6 p.m., and eligible students will receive rideshare services to leave at 6 p.m.
  • Students who were assigned OMNYCards during the school year will continue to use their OMNY card to get to their Summer Rising site.  Students who become eligible based on distance from their Summer Rising site can receive an OMNY at their summer site and can use these OMNYCards to get to and from Summer Rising at the start and end times of the program (8 a.m. and 6 p.m.).
