If student is mandated to attend summer school due to not meeting grade-level standards promotion requirements, the student must attend summer school in order to meet promotion requirements.
NYC Summer School 2025, specifically "Summer Rising," is a free program for NYC students in grades K-8, offering academic and enrichment activities. Summer school provides students with the opportunity to reinforce essential skills, make up for lost classwork, and prepare for the next grade level. The goal is to ensure that students are adequately prepared for the upcoming school year and have the necessary skills to succeed.
The summer school program will run from Wednesday, July 2 through Thursday, August 8. A typical day for students in grades K-8 will include a combination of academic support, social-emotional learning, and enrichment activities. Academic studies will be provided by licensed teachers in the morning. Enrichment activities such as art, sports, and play will be led by CBO staff in the evenings and on Fridays.
